Personal statement: "We live in a more and more globalizing world.” Kofi Annan stated on February 4th, 2003 at the World Economic Forum in New York referring to the role of business in this process. He proceeded with: “we must bring a message of solidarity, of mutual respect and, above all, of hope. Business cannot afford to be seen as the problem.” Treating each other with respect appears to be particularly important in modern
economy. In this context arrogance is not a guarantee for success. Rather, factors such as mutual trust and common experiences seem to be of much greater importance from a microeconomic perspective. Therefore, the Business sector can play a vital role for the propagation of Respect as a value, exactly because its global structures reach out to many different cultures and geographic areas at all levels. To the well-being of humankind and economic success!
