Dr. Britta Mueller-Schauenburg is currently working as a member of the Hugo von Sankt Viktor – Institut at the Philosophisch-Theologischen Hochschule Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt / Main. As a part of the DFG Priority Programme "Integration and Disintegration of Civilizations in the European Middle Ages" (SPP 1173) she is doing research in the intellectual shape of the
antipope Benedict XIII. as it is knowable form his big library, in whichs content we have insight through medieaval catalogues. Her focus is on his special interest in muslim and jewish thinking, which was part of is direct environement in spain. Benedikt XIII. was a professonally trained jurist. The question is, whether and how his careful iuridical argumentation can be seen as a struggeling attempt to keep respect, which has not been successful under the conditions of his time.
