Academic background: After finishing high school in 2002 Anja Schmerling started studying psychology at the University of Hamburg. She passed her preliminary diploma in 2004 and decided to specialize in Pedagogical and Industrial & Organizational Psychology. In 2006 she attended a professional training on conflict mediation and group moderation under the
guidance of Prof. Dr. Alexander Redlich in the field of Consulting and Training. In 2007 she qualified as a tutor for “Conflict Moderation in Groups”, presenting a workshop within the course the following year. Anja Schmerling gained practical experience by teaching two key-qualification workshops at the Department of Law and at the Department of Educational Science, Psychology and Educational Athletics. Furthermore she qualified for a tutorship in Communication Psychology in 2007 to subsequently lead a workshop accompanying the lecture “Communication, Personality and Job” by Prof Dr. Schulz von Thun. Anja Schmerling studys Human Resources as a minor subject since 2004.
Career background: Since starting her studies in 2002 Anja
Schmerling gained practical experience as a student employee in different departments. She was responsible for organizing courses at the clinical department for a period of 3 terms and also jobbed at the university hospital of Eppendorf in a project concerning identification measures for adipose children in Germany. In 2005 she started her cooperation in the project MOSAIK ((Multimedia-Based Online-Scenarios for Adequate Interaction and Communication) under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Schulz von Thun. The project aimed to establish web based units for teaching the models of the Hamburg communication psychology. Within the project Anja Schmerling was among other things concerned with writing scripts for audio- and video based units. In 2006 she completed a half year internship at the Beiersdorf AG.
