Dear Subscriber,

With this newsletter, we would like to inform you about two upcoming events which will give you the opportunity to hear more about and discuss with us our current research.

The two events are:

1. Open doors presentations „The Utility of Respect“ on March 27 in Hamburg (Germany)

2. Research colloquium “Dealing with the Other” on July 24 – 26 in Ostholstein (Germany)

1. Open doors presentations „The Utility of Respect“ on March 27 in Hamburg (Germany)

The RespectResearchGroup and the Foundation Wertevolle Zukunft invite you for the evening of March 27, 2009, to gain insight into the current respect research and discuss it's utility for practice.

Members of the RespectResearchGroup present their projects during this open doors evening "The utility of respect - how companies and other institutions can profit from respect research?". All of the projects scheduled for presentation deal with values and more specifically with the utility of respect in a variety of contexts. After the presentations, we invite you for a discussion about how our insights may be used in practice and

how a future reseach agenda should look like.

Most presentations and the discussion will be held in German. For further information (in German only), please go here ... more >>

2. Research colloquium “Dealing with the Other” on July 24 – 26 in Ostholstein (Germany)

"Dealing with the Other" is the topic of an interdisciplinary research colloquium for junior scientists hosted by the RespectResearchGroup from July 24th to 26th at the seminar center Gut Siggen in Ostholstein (Germany).

In recent years, the figure of the "Other" has become a central

category in a number of sciences. In cultural studies, for example, post-colonial and genderoriented approaches use this figure, and also in Psychology it is one of the primary categories of reference. Often this is accompanied by a discussion of ethical questions: dealing with the other involves the responsibility for the other. This question for responsibility percolates business and economics as well as social sciences: questions for successful dealing with the world, for identity and networks, homogenization and heterogenization are inseparable of encountering the other.

The research colloquium will be started with a panel discussion (in German) on the topic "Diversity - A Bump for Efficiency or a Boost for Enrichment?" on July 24th in Hamburg. We kindly invite you to join us starting 7 pm at the Foundation Wertevolle Zukunft, Alte

Rabenstraße 32, in Hamburg (Germany). Please send an email to kolloquium@respectresearchgroup.org should you be interested in attending.

In the subsequent colloquium, we want to work on the topic "dealing with the other" from as many different scientific perspectives as possible. While doing that we want to be led by the search for a "good" dealing with the other, i.e., how must our dealings look like to be fruitful for all sides involved? Which steps need to be practically taken?

"The more different, the better" - this shall be the guiding principle of our interdisciplinary discussions. This also includes questions of advantages and disadvantages of an interdisciplinary scientific

practice. Therefore, we invite junior scientists of all disciplines who are dealing with the "Other" in their research to participate in this colloquium.

Please understand that our priority is not to drown you in a flood of newsletters. We only send out newsletters if we really have something to say… and not merely for the sake of it. We think that this is a respectful way of dealing with our subscribers, even if this might mean that you receive the next issue in one or two months' or even a year’s time.

If you are interested in our research or in our group please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely,

The RespectResearchGroup
