Academic background: Suzanne van Gils has joined the RespectResearchGroup in May 2008 as an external PhD member. She is a PhD candidate at Rotterdam School of Management, where she conducts research on ethical leadership under supervision of Prof. Dr. Niels van Quaquebeke and Prof. Dr. Daan van Knippenberg. Prior to starting her PhD, Suzanne received her MSc degree in social psychology from the William James Graduate School at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. In her PhD project, Suzanne investigates whether follower moral awareness can function as a boundary condition to the effectiveness of ethical leaders. Furthermore, she is interested in whether identity and self-construal can bring out ethical behavior in leaders. In this context, she is currently visiting Dr. Michael Hogg’s social identity lab at Claremont Graduate University in California.
