1. The next multi-disciplinary colloquium for young scholars

"Communication of recognition": That is the topic of this year's colloquium for young scholars. Out of all applications we chose 20 graduates, doctoral students, and post-docs to discuss it with us on Gut Siggen at the Baltic Sea (sponsored by the Toepfer Foundation F.V.S.). Before that, we host an open panel discussion on "The voice of the people: Is grassroots democracy the new way?" on the 21st of July in the Hamburg Business Club (sponsored by the Business Ethics Foundation Hamburg). You are invited to come. However, because of space constraints, please register yourself beforehand. Find the respective information in our invitation ....pdf >>

2. We teach

As we have already done in the last years, this year too, we teach at various summer academies. A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure to give a five day workshop for scholarship holders of the Toepfer F.V.S Foundation, the Haniel Foundation, the Gerda Henkel Foundation, and the Foundation Polytechnical Society. In two weeks, we will continue this series with a two-week seminar on respect for the German National Academic Foundation. We are discussing the potential contents of the course on our facebook page. Please feel free to give your input. ... www >>

4. New leadership

Dr. Tilman Eckloff has led the RespectResearchGroup over the last eight years with inspiring enthusiasm. And we would like to thank him for that. He, however, now takes over the lead in our newest

project: re|spic|ere (more on that in the next newsletter). With Christina Mölders now one of our own research talents takes over his co-director role. Christina studied psychology in Hamburg with additional certifications in communication psychology. She has worked for five years in the social psychology department in Hamburg and extensively published on the issue of taxes and justice. Since 2006 she is a member of the RespectResearchGroup. Within the group she now started her dissertation on the topic of  "Disrespect in the public political debate". ... www >>

4. The press about us and our work

We have done many new exciting studies - and the press has caught wind of that. Latest was a report by Wolf Lotter in the German economic lead magazine brandeins. You can read up on it and other

reports by clicking on our press overview (Sorry, many of these reports are in German. If you are an international journalist, feel free to contact us and do a press feature in English) ... www >>

5. Collaboration with ThinkTanks

We at the RespectResearchGroup like to mingle across the scientific border. Particularly, we are interested in inspiring the discourse on a societal level and have thus been actively involved in ThinkTanks, such as the Stiftung Neue Verantwortung or Common Purpose. Latest ist  Dr. Swantje Möller who has just commenced her role in the tt30, the yound offspring  of the renown Club of Rome.

6. New scholarships and positions

After his success at the Fritz Thyssen Foundation our very own

Dr. Sebastian Zenker also succeeded in securing a grant from the German Research Council (DFG) for a two year post-doctoral research fellowship at the Erasmus School of Economics of the Eramus University in Rotterdam. Likewise, Dr. Sibylle Petersen assumed the interim professorship of health psychology at the TU Dortmund. Dr. Niels Van Quaquebeke was appointed Associate Professor of Leadership and Organizational Behavior at the newly founded private University in Hamburg, the Kuehne Logistics University, named after its sponsor.

7. Open for the next generation

We are always looking for excellent graduates who want to do a PhD on the topic of interpersonal respect. If you are interested, please don't hesitate to contact us via email or telephone. Be warned though

that all scholars in our group need to bring/acquire/have their own funding. ... pdf >>

Please understand that our priority is not to drown you in a flood of newsletters. We only send out newsletters if we really have something to say… and not merely for the sake of it. We think that this is a respectful way of dealing with our subscribers, even if this might mean that you receive the next issue in one or two months’ or even a year’s time. If you are interested in our research or in our group please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
